Reconcile Your Prime Big Deal Days Commissions Before You Celebrate
The number you see the week after a big event is not the number you keep. Returns and rate details change it. Here is how to read your event earnings honestly.

The week after a big event, the earnings figure looks great. It is also not final. A chunk of what you see this week will change before it becomes money you actually keep. Knowing that up front keeps you from building next month's plan on a number that is about to shrink.
Why the first number is always too high
- Returns have not landed yet. Event shoppers buy fast and return more than usual. A commission on an order that gets returned reverses. High-return categories like clothing and shoes reverse the most.
- Shipped versus ordered. Some commissions only firm up once the item ships and the return window logic settles. An order placed in the rush is not a guaranteed payout.
- Rate details vary by product. The blended rate across a big mixed event is rarely the flat number you assumed. Some categories pay far less than others.
None of this means the event did not work. It means the honest total is lower than the first-week high, and you should expect that rather than be surprised by it.
Read it in tiers
When you look at your event earnings, separate them:
- Ordered. The gross, feel-good number. Treat it as a ceiling, not a result.
- Shipped and past the return window. Closer to real. This is what you are likely to keep.
- By category. So you can see whether your winners were high-rate or high-return.
Wait for the dust, then bank the real lesson
Give it two to three weeks for returns to settle, then look again. The stable number is the one to compare against your baseline and to plan Black Friday on. If you track your commissions in one place instead of eyeballing the dashboard, this reconciliation takes minutes and you avoid the classic trap of spending against a number that was never going to hold.
Celebrate the event, it earned. Just celebrate the number you keep, not the one that shows up first.
