Requirements and applying (without getting rejected)

Which social account to apply with, what Amazon looks for, the application walkthrough, and what to do if you get rejected.

๐Ÿ“‹ What Amazon actually requires

You apply with one social media account: YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok. Amazon looks at that account's follower count and, more importantly, its engagement: do real people like, comment on, and interact with your posts?

Amazon does not publish exact thresholds, and approval is partly automated, so two people with similar accounts can get different results. The folk wisdom from thousands of applicants:

  • YouTube and Facebook approvals tend to be the most forgiving; YouTube accounts often get in with modest subscriber counts.
  • Instagram and TikTok generally want to see engagement, commonly in the low thousands of followers with consistent interaction, though smaller engaged accounts get approved regularly.
  • A dormant account with 10,000 ghost followers loses to an active account with 1,500 real ones.

๐Ÿงน Before you apply: 30 minutes of prep

Give your chosen account a quick once-over. Amazon (and its automated checks) will see exactly what a stranger sees:

If all your accounts are small and quiet, spend two or three weeks posting consistently before applying. An application costs nothing, but repeated instant rejections on the same account do not help you.

๐Ÿ“ The application, step by step

  1. Go to the Amazon Influencer Program page at https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/influencers and click Sign up.
  2. Sign in with the Amazon account you shop with (your purchase history and reviews are part of your identity as a creator; a brand-new empty Amazon account is a weaker signal).
  3. Choose the social account to apply with and connect it so Amazon can verify you own it.
  4. Fill in your profile details and submit.

Three outcomes are possible:

  • Instant or fast approval into the full program.
  • Approval "on probation": you get storefront access, and Amazon watches your activity before fully confirming.
  • Rejection.

๐Ÿ”„ If you get rejected

Rejection is common and recoverable. It is not a ban.

  • Try a different platform. Rejected on Instagram? Apply with your YouTube or Facebook account. Many creators get in on their second or third platform choice.
  • Build for 30 days, then reapply. Post consistently, engage genuinely, and try again. There is no formal cooldown, but reapplying the next day with nothing changed gets the same answer.
  • Do not buy followers. Purchased followers tank your engagement rate, which is the thing Amazon is actually measuring.

โš ๏ธ A note on the storefront-only trap

Approval gives you a storefront and affiliate links immediately. It does NOT yet put your videos on product pages: that is a second approval (onsite placement), and it is where beginner earnings actually come from. That second gate is the whole subject of the next module.

Next, Module 4: getting approved for onsite video placement.
